Gyotaku --- Original, Hand-Printed & Detailed Fish ArtMuseum of the Everglades, Everglades City, FL
--By Bonnie Warecki
Perfect gifts for discriminating, hard-to-please people.
Originals and Limited Edition Prints that fit any décore.
Durable, original beauty, and value.
Gyotaku is an ancient Oriental art form that first became popular in the 1800’s. In Japanese, the word means “fish rubbing”. The technique is so precise for recording the exact characteristics of fish, that it is still used in Japan for determining the winner of some fishing contests. I continually attempt to refine a variety of my styles to capture the unique characteristics of each subject and setting. Each project presents a new opportunity.
I hope that you will enjoy your visit to our Virtual Studio and Gallery. At our online store, you'll find many of my hand-rubbed original, underwater impressions and limited-edition giclee prints. Freshwater species such as walleye, trout, perch and bass; saltwater fish such as snook, redfish, and spotted sea trout from Florida, plus anadromous fish such as Chinook (King) Salmon are just some of the species I work with. Feel free to contact me with any questions or special requests for custom orders.
